Midfielder opens up on losing confidence at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has opened up on losing confidence over lack of playing time and building momentum after featuring against Mamelodi Sundowns.

After a bright start to the season that featured six starts in Amakhosi's first six games of the season, Sithebe gradually became an inconspicuous figure at Naturena.

The 30-year-old was left on the bench six times this season and only got a six-minute taste of the Soweto Derby.

"I have been out of the team since October and I have been waiting for my chance. Obviously, if you are not playing games you lose confidence and stamina," Sithebe told the club's official website.

The versatile midfielder got his first of the year start as Chiefs locked horns against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday and although his side lost the battle, Sithebe was relieved to be back on the playing field.

"I trained hard to be ready for my chance. The coach gave me the opportunity [against Sundowns] and I was happy to play again," Sithebe added.

"I was satisfied with my performance coming into a big game. The coach told me I played well so, for me, that gave me confidence to do better in the next game."

Sithebe will be hoping to get another chance when Amakhosi take on Royal AM at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

Both teams go into the clash on the back of a poor run of form with Chiefs having lost all three of their last five matches while Royal AM has collected just one win from their last five outings.
