The South African football fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the death of decorated Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates legend John 'Dungi' Moeti.
Moeti's death at the age of 55, came after a battle with a long illness that was confirmed by the Buccaneers legend's family in a statement.

"It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we inform you of the passing of John "Dungi" Moeti," a statement said.
"John suddenly took ill eight months ago and was receiving specialist medical care.
"John succumbed to his illness in the early hours of this morning (February 6) at home, surrounded by his family and brethren in prayer.
"We thank you sincerely for your prayers and steadfast support. The family wishes to be afforded privacy during this time of loss, and funeral details will be advised in due course."
Moeti's decorated career saw him feature for Orlando Pirates before a move to Dynamos where he started 106 games with 8 goals before returning to the Buccaneers (205 starts/7 goals) and then SuperSport United (50 starts/1 goal). Moeti also featured for Swaraj FC.
The Bafana international retired at the end of the of the 2000/01 season with 29 international appearances.
A dynamic midfielder, Moeti was part of the successful Buccaneers side to lift the CAF Champions League in 1995, then lifted the African Cup of Nations under Clive Barker in 1996.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) also issued a statement on the passing of Moeti.
"The South African Football Association and I wish to convey our sincerest condolences and heartfelt sorrow to the family and friends of Dungi Moeti," said SAFA president Danny Jordaan in a statement issued by SAFA.
