Banyana star strikes on debut

Banyana Banyana star Linda Motlhalo marked her debut in perfect fashion with a goal for new club Glasgow City in the Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL).

Motlhalo capped off a Player of the Match performance with her first goal for her new side as Glasgow demolished Partick Thistle 8-1 in the SWPL on Sunday.

The 24-year-old had made her debut for the side last week, coming on as a late substitute during City's 0-0 draw against Rangers.

'Randfontein Ronaldinho' will now be hoping to carry her club form to the national team after she was named in Desiree Ellis' Banyana Banyana squad announced on Tuesday.

The attacking midfielder was instrumental in Banyana's AFCON winning campaign, scoring the decisive goal against Zambia to send South Africa to the final of the continental showpiece. They then defeated Morocco 2-1 to be crowned African Champions.

Banyana will participate in the Turkish Women's Cup tournament to be held from 13-23 February 2023. They will be joined by Slovenia, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Zambia and host nation, Turkey.
