Riveiro reveals selection headache

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed a selection headache as the Buccaneers' squad nears full strength.

Despite a loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, the Buccaneers remain in positive form, with three wins from their last five DStv Premiership outings.

The squad has also been boosted by the return to full training of several key payers such as Thembinkosi Lorch and centre-back Olisah Ndah.

Both did not make the matchday said on Saturday's 1-0 loss to Sundowns, as neither did Richard Ofori or Fortune Makaringe, while Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo only made it to the bench, and Vincent Pule came on as a substitute.

Asked if he felt any of the players that didn't feature on the day could have made a difference to the result, Riveiro explained the 'headache' of choosing his starting eleven.

"We have a very good squad, I can't complain. It's quality players everywhere and it's a headache for the coach to decide which one is the best one," the Spaniard said.

"We're not playing FIFA, we don't simulate games. It is difficult you know. That's the complexity of my job and that's why they brought me here and that's why there are differences between coaches, because you have to manage all of these aspects.

"I'm happy to have this level in the squad, I really enjoy every training session because they [Pirates players] are so good. But unfortunately, I have to choose eleven and if you see the players who are not even making the starting 20 list, you can imagine how difficult it is."

After collecting their first piece of silverware for the season in the MTN8, Pirates will hope for a similar run when they kick-start their Nedbank Cup campaign against All Stars on Saturday.
