With various reports of there being tension between Neymar and Paris Saint-Germain supporters, the shock reason behind the player's fractured relationship with fans has been revealed.
Neymar has endured several run-ins with the PSG faithful since his record-breaking €222 million (R4.1 billion) move from FC Barcelona on 2017.
He has been widely considered a divisive character, with some Parisians supporters taking issue with his off-field antics and outgoing lifestyle, which includes hosting and attending lavish parties in Brazil and France. In 2021, the 30-year-old even told French station TF1 that he would never stop partying despite what his critics say.
With recurring injuries also thought to be another frustrating factor about the Selecao talisman, his time at the Parc des Princes has seen him riddled with insults from supporters, who took serious issue with him expressing his desire to leave the club and return to Barca in 2019.

This incident led to series of insults and derogatory banners aimed at Neymar, while one of the banners was an insult to the star's mother.
Head of the PSG fan organisation Collectif Ultras Paris, Romain Mabille, has admitted that the banner really worsened things between the supporters at the attacker.
"The road to redemption will be long," Mabille told France Bleu Paris.
"It's true, the banner that insults his mother, it's hard, we were hard. The fact is that people gave him so much love at the start.
"He is a player who walks on the emotional side, we could have had a relationship. There has been no desire from the club or from Neymar to restore the situation."

Meanwhile, Neymar has consistently not relented to the fans, and after he was booed again in 2022 despite PSG winning the Ligue 1 title, he told ESPN Argentina: "I still have a contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
"I'm here for three more years, so stop [booing] or you'll need more air!"
