Orlando Pirates progressed to the Nedbank Cup round of 16 after defeating All Stars FC 2-0, with Thembinkosi Lorch marking his return with a goal.
Craig Martin got his first start for Pirates while Sandile Mthethwa and Terrence Dzvukamanja were also recalled by coach Jose Riviero. Meanwhile, Thembinkosi Lorch and new signings Makhehlene Makhaula and Marou Souaibou were named on the bench.
Pirates suffered a blow five minutes after the start when Goodman Mosele pulled up uncomfortably after he attempted a pass and was substituted for Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo.
The Buccaneers looked to register first around the half-hour mark through a curling shot from an acute angle by Monnapule Saleng, but he was unable to beat Stars goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali.
All Stars didn't sit back and allow the Soweto giants to dictate but ran at their defence and on a few occasions stung the gloves of goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.
It did appear that the Buccaneers went ahead on the stroke of halftime after Mthethwa charged on a free-kick and bundled in, but he was flagged for offside.
The Buccaneers made a strong push for the opener early in the second period and saw Mtshali parry Ndlondlo's low shot and denied the follow-up effort from Deon Hotto too.
All Stars struggled to contain the Buccaneers and fell behind when Saleng brought a low cross under control in the area and scooped over Mtshali midway in the second half.
Jose Riveiro's evening came to an end after the hour mark, as the Spaniard was given his marching orders by the referee.
The Buccaneers upped the tally with 20 minutes to play after Lorch started a move from deep before he charged in the area and finished off the subsequent move to mark his return with a goal.
Stars almost reduced the score-line a few minutes later through a header by Sabelo Nyembe following a free-kick, but he nodded wide of the mark.
The Buccaneers introduced new signing Makhaula for his debut as he replaced Miguel Timm in the final five minutes of the match, but Pirates were already home and dry as they booked their spot in the last 16.
