Haaland misses out As Man City punish Liverpool

Manchester City came from behind to thrash Liverpool 4-1 to keep their Premier League title hopes alive Saturday afternoon.

Top-scorer Erling Haaland and Phil Foden weren't available for City due to injuries, while Jurgen Klopp brought Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliott back into starting line-up.

As City enjoyed a buoyant start, the Reds made the breakthrough on 17 minutes when Mohamed Salah ran into the area from the right and curled a layoff from Diogo Jota in the top-corner.

The title holders were behind for just ten minutes as Jack Grealish peeled to the left of the area and cutback for Julian Alvarez to complete a quick passing move with an easy tap-in.

Both teams got opportunities to go in at the halftime interval in front though neither were able to get a clear sight towards target and had to enter the interval all square.

City turned out for the second half restored and were ahead two minutes in when Kevin De Bruyne charged on the end of a low cross from the right and tapped in from close-range.

The champions made matters more comfortable six minutes apart as a scramble in the area from a ball played in fell right at Ilkay Gundogan, who took one touch and fired in from a few yards out.

With the Citizens in control, the Reds looked to the bench to change their fortunes and introduced Darwin Nunez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino and Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Those reinforcements didn't affect matters as City made it four when Grealish made a late run in the area and following a one-two - re-directed De Bruyne's reverse pass in the far corner.

City had a lot of the possession in the final stages and ultimate ran down the clock for the win that keep the pressure on the leaders Arsenal.
