Lewandowski & Barca brush Elche aside in LaLiga

FC Barcelona resumed LaLiga action with a 4-0 thrashing of Elche at Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on Saturday night.

Blaugrana coach Xavi Hernandez rang the changes after El Clasico, as Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres were restored to the attack while Eric Garcia, Jordi Alba and Marcos Alonso returned.

The Catalan side dominated the early parts of the first half as expected but there was surprisingly a lack of goal-mouth action in the Elche box.

That all changed with 20 minutes gone as Robert Lewandowski got the opening goal with a composed finish in the box after some good work by Ronald Araujo.

Lewandowski had a chance to extend the lead just before the halftime break, but the Poland international steered his close-range header over the crossbar.

The second goal did arrive ten minutes into the second half when Ansu Fati collected a pass from Torres before finding the bottom corner with a neat right-footed strike.

Lewandowski would go on to his second and Barcelona's third goal in the 66th minute. Gavi picked up possession and slipped the Polish striker through on goal before he calmly slotted home.

Torres extended Barcelona's advantage with 20 minutes to play as the Spaniard collected a pass from Lewandowski before sending a powerful strike beyond Elche goalkeeper Edgar Badia.

With Barcelona comfortably leading, Xavi withdrew Ronald Araujo for youngster Pablo Torre for the final 12 minutes of the contest.

The Catalan outfit were able to see off any late surges from the home side to hold on for the clean sheet to go along with maximum points.
