Man Utd star: What happened in dressing room after Newcastle loss

Manchester United star Luke Shaw has revealed what transpired in the dressing following the club's defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Red Devils suffered a rare 2-0 defeat to the Magpies in the Premier League on the weekend, their first loss to the Geordie side in the competition since October 2019.

United have now failed to score in their past three league outings, having gone goalless in their previous two games against Liverpool and Southampton too.

It appears this underwhelming run of results prompted a strong reaction from the team, with Shaw having revealed that the players had an inquest in the dressing room following their latest disappointing loss, with members of staff being asked to vacate the room.

"I do think Newcastle are a very good side but I don't think they won the game on quality today. Clearly, they had higher motivation than we had, and that can't be possible," Shaw said after the match, according to the Daily Mail.

"I'm not going to go too much into it, but the players had a chat after with no staff around, as it's down to us on the pitch.

"It's not good enough and we had to speak out in front of each other.

"It's been coming, before the international break we had dropped levels. The levels were not there.

"It's not good enough and it's not acceptable."

Manager Erik ten Hag agreed with Shaw's observation, insisting he was surprised by his side's gutless performance against the Magpies.

"I totally agree and that was also my assessment," the Dutchman said. "They [Newcastle] were more determined, had more aggression and more desire.

"I was surprised that we couldn't match the determination and passion of the opponent. If you want to win big games, you have to be mature, and I didn't see that."
