'Ronaldo was fooled into joining Al Nassr'

It has been suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo "may have been fooled" into joining Al Nassr in December 2022.

The 38-year-old appears to have adjusted to life in Saudi Arabia quite comfortably, having contributed with 12 goals and two assists in 12 Saudi Pro League matches so far.

However, while things are seemingly going in the right direction for him on an individual level, Al Nassr face the prospect of missing out on the league title as they sit in second place, trailing leaders Al Ittihad by three points with five games remaining.

The Knights of Najd's struggles to maintain a title challenge has visibly frustrated the Portuguese superstar, who has been witnessed throwing tantrums following poor results.

Last week, rumours emerged claiming that he would be open to quitting the club at the end of the season and would like a return to Real Madrid, even for a non-playing role.

There were also suggestions that Newcastle United could be a potential destination for the veteran striker, who has been in the Middle East for just five months so far, but Magpies boss Eddie Howe later dismissed reports linking his side with the player.

FC Barcelona and Brazil legend Rivaldo has now insisted that a return to Los Blancos would be a good idea for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, whom he believes may have been "fooled" into his move to the Gulf state by the lucrative offer made for his services.

"I understand that sometimes the players are fooled by the big contract they sign in Saudi Arabia, but then life there is more closed and football is not always as easy as expected," Rivaldo told Mundo Deportivo.

"So, you may be going through a phase of some disappointment and even reflection. If the money you're getting makes up for the not-so-happy life you're living right now.

"It would be good for him and for football to see Cristiano Ronaldo return to Real Madrid to finish his career.

"Of course, the fans have to understand that they cannot demand the same from him as when he was 25 or 26 years old, but he can still help the club in more conquests."
