Top earner Mothoho to bring close to Chiefs spell ahead of final week at Naturena

Defender Mulomowandau Mathoho will bring an end to his 11-year Kaizer Chiefs spell ahead of his final week at Naturena while having 4 million possible reasons that could complicate finding a new club.

Mathoho has represented Chiefs since July 2012 after being signed in dramatic circumstances from Bloemfontein Celtic with a mannequin wearing his jersey unveiled alongside fellow signings including Morgan Gould and Siboniso Gaxa were revealed.

The joys of winning the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup along with lifting the league twice in his first three years at the club have been followed by a paining eight years of no silverware.

For Mathoho, it has become an awful end to his time at Chiefs having now spent this season moving between the stands and the bench with the his only appearance lasting a mere minute despite the club leaking as many goals as relegation threatened Marumo Gallants.

The 33-year-old last made an appearance in March 2022 when he played until half-time against Golden Arrows before being hauled off after his blunder handed the visitors the goal that proved the match-winner.

Since then, the defender has been frozen out and will now walk away as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of next month.

With Chiefs' season coming to an end on Saturday, it means Mathoho will have his final training sessions with the club this week.

Mothoho's next challenge will be focusing on clinching his next move whether it be in the DStv Premiership or abroad.

Not only that, but Mathoho will have to deal with how much of a pay cut he will take in signing for his next club.

The Bafana Bafana international with 37 caps to his name reportedly earns approximately R 4miilion per year including signing-on and appearance bonuses.

'Tower' sensationally earns six figures at Chiefs where he is in the top tier of the club's earners.

However, with his options pointing in the direction of lower table clubs it means he will be forced to take a pay cut.

Discussions have already started on his next opportunity.
