Arteta 'ready to spend' €200m on 2 new stars for Arsenal

With Arsenal having arguably punched above their weight in the Premier League this season, manager Mikel Arteta is now reportedly ready to spend a massive €200 million (R4.1 billion) on two particular players.

The Gunners are set for their highest finish in the English top flight since the 2015/16 campaign, and have already booked themselves a long-awaited spot in the UEFA Champions League following their seven-season absence from the elite competition.

While hopes of a first league title in nearly two decades have all but evaporated following their recent 3-0 loss to Brighton Hove Albion, Arsenal are now preparing to bolster their squad in order to improve on this season's good showing.

As such, the London outfit are believed to have a lined up two new signings, with Arteta having said to have received a budget of €200 million to spend on the two specific players.

According to Fichajes, the Gunners want to sign up the highly coveted pairing of Declan Rice from West Ham Untied and Moises Caicedo of Brighton.

The duo are expected to come at no cheap price, with both the Hammers and the Seagulls expecting a fee in the region of €100 million (R2 billion) for their respective players.

Ecuador international Caicedo has been one of the breakout stars this season, and was the subject of a big potential move to Chelsea in January, before ultimately penning a new deal at the American Express Community Stadium in in March.

Rice was also on the Blues' radar over the past few seasons, but the record-breaking arrival of Enzo Fernandes in his preferred central midfield position earlier this year has cast doubt as to whether that deal will materialise in the future.

Arsenal thus look to stand a good chance to sign the England international, with West Ham boss David Moyes admitting on the weekend that the 24-year-old, who has also been linked with Thomas Tuchel's Bayern Munich, is likely to leave the club in the coming transfer window.

"We honestly hope he stays," Moyes said, according to Sky Sports.

"We'd love for him to be a West Ham player but we are aware that might not be the case at the end of the season. So that's one of the scenarios around planning.

"There are plans that we have Dec here but we're also fully aware there is a good chance we won't have him."
