Sympathetic Zwane addresses Chiefs fan violence

Head coach Arthur Zwane has addressed the disgruntled Kaizer Chiefs fans for the first time since needing a police escort when projectiles were thrown at him after a defeat to SuperSport United.

Chiefs confirmed on Monday that Zwane's minor injury, initially understood to have been from a projectile thrown by angry supporters, was sustained rather from a shield used by one of the law enforcement officers while escorting him out of Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Speaking for the first time since the incident, Zwane has assured the Amakhosi faithful that the glory days will return to Naturena.

"Look I would always say I've seen them supporting the team through thick and thin. I've seen them supporting the team even when things were not going our way," Zwane told the club's media.

"I know how they (supporters) want things to improve in the squad. We are also worried about the situation because we thought we could make the situation better, even far better.

"But you know when you are in the phase that we are in, you will always face those hiccups and challenges here and there. But they (supporters) are always in our thoughts, we will always want to make them happy.

"Most definitely, the time will come when they will be happy and when they are happy, smiling like others, they will forget about days like this."

Chiefs have lost three of their last five outings across all competitions and will end an underwhelming campaign with a clash against Cape Town City on Saturday at FNB Stadium.

Kickoff is at 15:00.
