Brazil confirm Ancelotti 'plan'

The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has confirmed their plan for Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Brazil's pursuit of Ancelotti has been well-documented since their disappointing run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The five-time world champions were knocked out of the tournament by Croatia in the quarter-finals, despite boasting what was arguably the best squad at the showpiece.

This led to the resignation of then-manager Tite, who announced his departure in a post-match interview after his side were knocked out via a penalty shootout.

The Brazilian FA has since made no secret of the fact that they want Ancelotti to take charge of the team, although he remains contracted to Real until June 2024.

CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues has now confirmed that the Selecao are indeed looking at the Italian as the best candidate for the job.

"Brazil has several competent coaches that we respect a lot, but we have a plan A, and it is Ancelotti," Rodrigues told UOL Esporte.

"We have the feeling that it will work. I think he has chemistry with the Brazilian national team.

"He knows most of the players who have played and currently play for the national team and he is a fan of Brazilian football."

With Ancelotti continuing to play down reports that he will take up the Brazil job, Rodrigues also explained that he understands why the 63-year-old remains coy about the role.

"If I were in his place, with a contract in force, I would not detract from the company that hired me to do that either," he added.

"They are very important names. We follow the work of Dorival, Abel and Diniz. We have seen all the important work they have done and we also observe others that are important and that I do not mention, but of which I can say that they are competent.

"Whatever the situation, the only sure thing is that the CBF will choose the one it considers best for the next cycle. And the cycle is not just playing the next World Cup but also winning the World Cup."

There have been suggestions that the Italian tactician could soon leave Los Blancos after missing out on both the UEFA Champions League and LaLiga titles this season, with the manner in which he lost those titles also being put into question.

The Spanish giants failed to defend their Champions League trophy in humiliating fashion when they were handed an embarrassing 5-1 defeat on aggregate by Manchester City in the semi-finals earlier this month, while Barca clinched the Spanish top-flight title with a comfortable points cushion.
