All players at risk as Chiefs look to end-of-season offload

The series of meetings underway at Kaizer Chiefs has left up to a third of the club's player anxious if performance is to be factored in the latest annual reshuffle.

So far, the only confirmed departure has been Mulomowandau Mathoho with the veteran defender leaving after 11 years at the club.

Mathoho's contract expires at the end of June and his case was long concluded after playing just a single minute since March 2022.

The issue of Itumeleng Khune is of interest considering that he is no longer first choice but remains amongst the top earners at the club.

Khune's latest deal is also up at the end of June and having only ever played for Chiefs through his professional career his case is sensitive.

The 35-year-old has played only 14 games in the last two seasons.

Khama Billiat is another top earner and spent the past season battling with injuries but remains valued at the club considering his influence in attack when fit.

Billiat was without a goal in the 12 appearances that he made last season as he battled with injuries.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana might have scored eight goals in 21 games, but Chiefs have long made the decision to let go of him based on the type of striker that he is.

Paperwork relating to Bimenyimana's settlement (as he has a running contract) has already been processed with his family – who reside in Canada – already informed.

Phathutshedzo Nange has run his race at Chiefs and will leave at the end of June after playing just five games last season.

With just one appearance last season, Austin Thabani Dube is a dead man walking.

Njabulo Ngcobo has not lived up to the hype in two years at Naturena and only played eight games from start to end last season.

Kgaogelo Sekgota will have reason to scratch his head having failed to score in two years and in 48 appearances has only had two assists playing as a winger.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi played seven games but non from start to end while Lehlogonolo Matlou played 90 minutes once in 15 appearances with a return of a single assist.

Cole Alexander has done little to justify his stay having just featured in seven games in the recently concluded season.

As it stands, Chiefs are wrapping deals on incomings before finalising departures who will be listed from non-performers.
