Real Madrid have now officially confirmed who will wear their iconic No. 7 jersey next season.

Los Blancos have announced that Vinicius Junior will wear the famous shirt number following Eden Hazard's departure.

The Brazilian previously wore the No. 20 jersey from the start of the 2020/21 campaign, after initially donning the club's No. 28 and No. 25 shirts in his first season in the first team following his €45 million (R899 million) arrival from Flamengo in 2018.

Speaking in a video published on his official YouTube channel in 2020, the winger explained why he chose his most recent squad number, according to Managing Madrid.

"No. 20 has brought me good luck, in Flamengo I was very happy and I made my debut wearing No. 20," the Selecao star said.

"My first games in professional football were with this number and this season I had the opportunity to change and I feel more comfortable.

"About the name, now it's easier because everyone calls me Vini anyway."

His compatriot and Real teammate Rodrygo has also been given a new squad number – he will now move from the No. 21 to No. 11 after Marco Asensio departed the club this month.
