PSG to put Mbappe up for sale after latest decision?

With Kylian Mbappe said to have sent Paris Saint-Germain a formal letter on Monday confirming a new decision, the French giants could now reportedly put the 24-year-old star up for sale.

According to French publication L'Equipe, the player has informed the club that he will not trigger the one-year contract extension until June 2025.

As such, the player will become a free agent at the end of next season and he's likely to leave the team as a free agent despite having joined the side in a mammoth €180 million (R3.6 billion) deal from AS Monanco in 2018.

It is now been claimed that PSG are taken aback by the forward's seeming change of heart and are now considering selling the him in the upcoming transfer window to avoid losing him for free at a later stage.

Ideally, the Ligue 1 champions want Mbappe to sign an extension as he is the face of their sporting project and the club's Qatari owners are said to be confused by this latest development.

The report also claims that the owners are prepared to make a huge effort in trying to convince the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner to stay a year long, including giving him a shares in certain Qatari state investments, similar to what Inter Miami have done with Lionel Messi more recently.

Reacting to the news, French football pundit Daniel Riolo told After Foot Mbappe seems to no longer believe in the project ran by sporting advisor Luis Campos.

"We are in a huge saga. PSG did not expect to receive this letter today. It is kind of a small declaration of war. They are appalled at the club.

"For Mbappé to announce this now, it's because he no longer believes in the promises. He no longer believes in the project. There, that changes everything for PSG. Even in the search for the coach with whom they are in the progress of discussing for…

"It also calls into question the work of Luís Campos, who came with the mission of keeping Mbappé and getting him to stay at the club.

"A year later, when Campos is supposedly the man who must rebuild everything, with the underlying idea of pleasing Mbappé, the club receives the letter that the option [to extend] no longer exists, it's a real shock."
