'I really don't understand' - Broos insists Lepasa should feature prominently at club level

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says he doesin't understand why striker Zakhele Lepasa is not considered the main striker at both SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates following the attacker's form on national duty.

South Africa recorded a hard-fought 2-1 win over Morocco when the two teams went head-to-head at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening in an African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier clash.

Percy Tau opened the scoring as early as the 5th minute before Zakhele Lepasa secured the victory with a second in the second half. The Atlas Lions pushed to get back into the game with Hakim Ziyech finding the back of the net on the hour mark, but Broos' charges held on to see out the match.

Lepasa's deciding goal was a second consecutive goal in national colours where he's enjoyed better fortunes than at club level, having Pirates to join SuperSport United on-loan in a bid to secure more game time.

"I said it in the past, Zakhele [Lepasa] is always a player in his club, who has problems," Broos said post-match.

"He didn't play at Pirates, now also with SuperSport, he doesn't play every game or parts of the game and I really don't understand it. You see I give him confidence because I know he is a really good striker.

"He is a good striker, but you have to give him confidence, first of all. Still, he has to improve, but I'm very happy with him and every game he played, he played an important [role], made an important goal in Liberia. So I don't think for defenders it's nice to play against him.

"He's movement, he is quick, everything that you ask, he does. So, we ask him, 'Zakhele go deep, you are quick' and all the game he did it.

"So, we to go on with this guy and we will go on with this guy. I'm very happy with him and again it's really a surprise that he's not the standard player at his clubs."
