My Dream Team - Dennis Vukubi

In the latest edition of My Dream Team, former Kaizer Chiefs, Bush Bucks and Cape Town Spurs attacker Dennis Vukubi names the 10 best players he featured alongside during his football career.

What formation?

"4-4-2. You will always be balanced in every department with 4-4-2 other than to have one isolated player who will struggle.

"In an attack 4-4-2 changes. It could be 3-5-1, it gives you 3-5-2, it depends on you."

Goalkeeper

"I'd go with Brian Baloyi. He was very vocal. He might not be as good as other goalkeepers but to me goalkeeping is all about giving information. The man was smart."

4 - Brian Baloyi - From 1993 to 2004

Defenders

"Right-back I will put Sizwe Motaung. He left for Switzerland just when I got promoted. So, I've learned a lot from him.

"On the left I enjoyed watching Japhet Zwane play. In terms of overlapping the boy was a scooter. One of the best.

Playing against him you needed to know your story, the boy had an engine.

"Centre-backs, Jacob Tshisevhe. There was a season where he carried Chiefs. One of the unsung heroes. Jacob was beautiful.

"The other guy will be Michael Jacobs. I played with him at Cape Town Spurs. He could marshal and he was very good in intercepting. It's a pity players from Cape Town only want to play in the Cape.

Imagine if he turned out for the likes of Chiefs and Pirates."

10 - Sizwe Motaung - Don't forget he used to go up

Midfield

"Mzunani Mgwigwi. He is good in destroying the opposition's plans. He gives you six studs on your toe you are finished.

"Next to him, I will put Tsiki-Tsiki. Creativity, and he comes back to help the defence. He was always in the front during endurance training.

"On the left, it will be Helman Mkhalele. He drops the shoulder and after that, he takes you on. What the best winger South Africa has ever produced.

"On the right if you want to know sit the likes of Shakes Mashaba down they will tell you about Dennis Vukubi. At Chiefs he played a striker but that was his big mistake. Vukubi was a right-winger, I would hit a cross from a halfway line. Even the great Mlungisi 'Professor' Ngubane said it with his own mouth 'Here in South Africa I'm the best in hitting crosses and the second is Vukubi."

LW - Helman Mkhalele - He was a modern winger. He

Strikers

"Jabu Pule. Allow him to have a better view of the goalposts. I remember during warm-ups he'd tell me 'You know what Vukubi, me and you we are not bench material [laughs]. You need him in the POMO area [Place of Many Opportunities].

"I will pair him with Wilfred 'Silver Fox' Mugeyi. He was balanced both aerially and on his feet."

1996/97 - Wilfred Mugeyi (Bush Bucks) - 22 goals

Substitutes

"Andre Arendse will be my reserve keeper. What a solid character.

"In defence, it will be Mohammed Ouseb. Very solid as well.

"In the middle, it's David Modise. With that grootman we would stay until late chilling in places, if we happened to sleep late, he'd tell me, we will drink Coca-Cola and eat a Bar-One chocolate tomorrow's game is nothing. And things will happen exactly like he said. He was a master.

"Striker is the late Lesley Manyathela. I used to always tell him, Lesley please work on your speed, your teammates are fast, and you are delaying them. His response would be, no bra Dennis but this is my strength. He used to talk to me a lot."

Coach

"Muhsin Ertugral, only if he could overgrow this thing of being emotional. The man is a worker behind the scenes. If you check the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeping department it was built when Muhsin arrived. From the likes of Itumeleng Khune."
