New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Junior Mendieta has opened up for the first time about his blockbuster move from Stellenbosch to the league champions.
The midfielder was unveiled as the latest big-money signing to join the star-studded Sundowns squad ahead of the 2023/23 season.
The move come on the back of a phenomenal personal campaign that saw Mendieta make 19 goal contributions (10 goals and nine assists) in 31 appearances last season.

The 30-year-old has spent three years in the Cape Winelands and has revealed that the lure of challenging for titles was ultimately too much to resist.
"My expectation was to get to the top and I've always admired Sundowns as it was one of the best teams. I really liked it. Now that I'm here, I feel very happy," Mendieta said on Mamelodi Sundowns' Pitchside Podcast.
"The comparison [between myself and Sundowns] is that I am a very competitive person in my life, and I really like the competition and also the desire to win trophies."
"I think that as the opportunity and what I was looking for. That is what attracted me to this team.
"It was the competition and the desire to win trophies and continue to grow as a footballer, as well as a person at the same time.
"I'm a player who has a great passion for myself with a personality and a strong character on the field. always try to give hundred percent."

Sundowns have also welcomed Lesiba Nku from Marumo Gallants and Brazilian Lucas Costa from Belgian second division side, SK Baveren.
Meanwhile, the Chloorkop-based outfit is also reportedly finalising the signing of 19-year-old Thapelo Maseko from SuperSport United.
