'Furious' Man Utd star wants Old Trafford exit

A certain Manchester United star is reportedly furious about his situation at the club and now wants an exit from Old Trafford.

The futures of several players in the United camp remain in doubt, with the likes of Fred, Donny van de Beek and Harry Maguire understood to be among those on the list of potential exits ahead of next season.

The latter, in particular, now seems closest to a departure. According to The Sun, Maguire has been left angry, shocked and upset with his boss' decision to strip him of the captaincy, which the player himself confirmed on Sunday evening.

The defender was given the armband in December 2019 by then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer within six months of joining the club. However, following Ten Hag's arrival last year, the England international's status in the team took a massive dip as he was reduced to a fringe role, making only 16 Premier League appearances last season.

It is claimed he now wants to leave the Theatre of Dreams completely as he feels humiliated by the Dutch tactician.

While the 30-year-old has two years remaining on his deal in Manchester, the club was said to have slapped a £50 million (R1.1 billion) price tag on the player previously, but it is now believed £30 million (R707 million) will be enough to see a deal done.

Chelsea, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in his services, while Inter Milan and Al-Hilal are also keeping an eye on the centre-back's situation.

Maguire released a statement expressing his emotions over losing the captaincy on Sunday evening.

"After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I'm personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt," he wrote on Twitter.

"I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I've been wearing the armband. Since the day I took on the role, it's been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career.

"It's one of the greatest honours in club football. I've done everything I possibly could to help United be successful – on and off the field. I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support."
