OFFICIAL: Al Ahly star banned for slapping opponent

An Al Ahly attacker has now been handed his punishment after slapping an opponent on the weekend.

Egyptian forward Hussein El-Shahat has been banned for two matches and fined for slapping Pyramids FC right-back Mohamed Chibi during a league clash on Sunday.

The Egyptian Pro League has issued a statement that reads: "The Egyptian Pro League has suspended Ahly's player Hussein El-Shahat for two games and fined him EGP 20,000 (R11 400) for his bad behaviour during the game against Pyramids FC according to the penalties' list."

The 31-year-old will now miss the Red Devils' upcoming fixtures against Al Mary in their final league game of the campaign, as well as their Egyptian Cup clash against Dakhleya on 30 July.

Al Ahly also decided to fine the player just a few hours after the game for his conduct, and the seven-capped Pharaoh has apologised to his opponent after the incident.

Pyramids FC, who claimed a 3-0 victory on the day to break Al Ahly's unbeaten run that had lasted all season until that point, later lodged a complaint against El-Shahat with the Egyptian Football Association's disciplinary committee.

Despite the defeat, Marcel Koller's men are already the 2022/23 EPL champions, having secured the title two weeks ago, and still hold a comfortable nine-point cushion at the top.
