Ntseki's era at Chiefs begins with a stalemate

Molefi Ntseki started his reign at Kaizer Chiefs with a stalemate against Chippa United in the DStv Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki handed starts to new signings Given Msimango, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edson Castillo, Ranga Chivaviro, as Augustine Mulenga and Goodman Mosele made their debuts for Chippa.

The Chilli Boys fancied an early breakthrough as new boy Menzi Ndwandwe scooped an overhead kick in the centre of the area over the top of Brandon Peterson's goal.

Although, Chiefs should've taken the lead before the 20th minute when a mis-placed pass by the visitors had Mduduzi Shabalala take control before firing wide of the near corner.

It was the Soweto giants who continued to have the momentum and a lofted shot from range by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo looked to caught Stanley Nwabili out of position, but the Nigerian was well alert.

Both teams enjoyed a fair share of chances towards the final stages, as the short-passing movements from the Amakhosi showed a lot of promise whereas Chippa played on the transition.

Chiefs were hoping to maintain the momentum soon after the halftime break with balls through the middle by Castillo, Ngcobo and Yusuf Maart.

Morgan Mammila's charges were content to sit deep, contain the pressure and use the pace from Siphelele Luthuli on the counter-attack which on a few occasions troubled the Amakhosi.

The Amakhosi strengthened their attack at the final quarter, with the addition of the speedy Ashley Du Preez who scored a cracker when the two met back in April.

However, the arrival didn't made the desired impact this as the Chilli Boys continued to prove remain resilient in defence and the two teams had to settle for a point apiece on the opening day..
