Inter Miami are yet to taste defeat following his sensational arrival last month, and they have now progressed to the Leagues Cup quarter-finals thanks to their skipper's latest heroics.

Against Dallas FC on Monday morning, Messi opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but the lead was short-lived as the home side responded strongly, netting three times by the 63rd minute to take a 3-1 lead.

The scoreline would soon be 4-2 in favour of the hosts, with Messi having a role in his team's second after providing the assist for the assist with a delightful through-ball to find an overlapping Jordi Alba, who in turn played the ball in for Benjamin Cremaschi to score. At this point, though, Inter Miami were seemingly on the brink of elimination from the tournament.

However, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner stepped up yet again, with Marco Farfan heading into his own goal following a set-piece from the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

Messi would save his best goal for last, scoring with a stunning free-kick in the 85th minute to draw his side level at 4-4 and force the tie into a penalty shootout.
