Pep after Arsenal loss: They didn't consult us on new rule!

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hit out at English football's new rule change after his side were beaten by Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday.

The Gunners claimed their first piece of silverware of the season on the weekend, when they beat City 4-1 on penalties at Wembley Stadium.

The match seemed to be going the Citizens' way when they took a 1-0 lead in the 77th minute through a stunning Cole Palmer strike form outside the box.

However, Arsenal found the equaliser in the 11th minute of injury time thanks to a Leandro Trossard shot that deflected in to Stefan Ortega's goal via Manuel Akanji's leg.

Guardiola was left unimpressed with the lengthy added time in the game, with English football's rule-makers having taken a new approach regarding stoppage time in matches.

English referees have been ordered to be stricter when it comes to time-wasting and dissent this season, with the new approach likened to that used at the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which saw matches being played out for much longer than before in order to make up for game time lost due to stoppages.

With the average time added in the EFL on the weekend said to be 16 minutes and 34 seconds, Guardiola has since expressed his frustrations with the new regulation.

"We will have to get used to this. We were winning 1-0. I had a feeling that not much happened to extend eight minutes," the Spanish tactician said after his side's

"But it is a good question for the international board and all the people because they don't consult with the managers, they don't consult with the players.

"We have to accept it. We have to do it. Now the games will be 100 minutes, that's for sure.

"They extend for goals. Every time you score a goal. [Imagine] a 4-3 and they put on 45 seconds for seven goals. Tomorrow morning at 8am we will still be here playing. Don't ask me my opinion, please."
