Where are they now - Asanda Mvalo

In our latest feature of Where Are They Now, KickOff catches up with former Bay United and Jomo Cosmos player Asanda Mvalo on life after football.

Who am I?

"Asanda was born and bred in the Eastern Cape but grew up in Cape Town.

"I signed my first contract with Manning Rangers. I left because they wanted to give me R2000 a month. That was in 2003.

"From there I went to Bush Bucks, Nathi Lions, OR Tambo Cosmos, Jomo Cosmos, Bay United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Baroka FC and Thanda Royal Zulu."

My playing days

"I enjoyed every moment. I have done everything I was supposed to do.

"I took football as work, not as a sport. I took it very, very seriously. Because I was not a gifted person, I worked harder than anyone else in the field of play."

Did I make money from soccer?

"I would say yes because I was able to look after my family. I don't have any regret."

Where I'm living

"I'm at Richards Bay, working as a head coach of Milford Football Club, we now campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

"I've been coaching since the day I retired from football. I have a CAF C license, going for my B licence.

"I have coached a couple of teams in the ABC Motsepe League as well, including Bizana Pondo Chiefs."

If I could do it again

"Maybe I would be a little bit relaxed, enjoy more, and not be so hard on myself.

"Because of the challenges I faced growing up I wanted to force things.

"The mistake I made was trying to be perfect all the time."
