Kaizer Chiefs booked their spot in the MTN8 semi-finals after rallying from behind to defeat Cape Town City 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki made two changes from the loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, as Tebogo Potsane and former City star Mduduzi Mdantsane, while the Citizens were unchanged from their midweek win over Moroka Swallows.
Chiefs had a fiery start though were behind midway in the first half after Marc Van Heerden applied a strong leap in the area to beat Brandon Peterson with a strong header.
The Amakhosi aimed to level instantly and were inches away through a first-time shot on the edge of the area by Yusuf Maart following a one-two, but he slammed wide.
City, though, had a huge chance to go two goals up in the closing ten minutes of the half as Khanyisa Mayo tucked a low delivery over target from pin-point range.
The hosts would go on to rue that miss as the Amakhosi levelled moments later when Ahsley Du Preez charged clear from the right and fired past a diving Darren Keet.
The home team were desperate to restore the lead ten minutes in the second period after a drop ball from Peterson led to a chance, but the goalkeeper managed to redeem himself.
Former Moroka Swallows defender Njabulo Ngcobo got his first run out of the season in the 60th minute when he came on for Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.
Chiefs went close in the latter stages through a first-time shot in the area by another substitute Christian Saile Basomboli, but he found the upright and left City off the hook.
However, the Amakhosi got the winner at the death as Salie sent an inviting cross to the far post, where Edson Castillo was on hand to tap in for his first goal in Chiefs colours..
The Citizens got a chance to draw level with a shot outside the area by Jo Paciencia, but he hit the underside of the crossbar as the Amakhosi held on to claim the win and a semi-final spot.
