Klopp responds to Salah's angry sub reaction

Jurgen Klopp has responded to Mohamed Salah's visibly furious reaction to being substituted during Liverpool and Chelsea's 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Prior to kick-off against his former club, the Egyptian stood on the cusp of history by becoming the first Premier League player to score in seven successive opening matchweeks in the English top flight.

After assisting Luis Diaz to open the scoring for the Reds, the prolific winger found the back of the net himself in the 31st minute, but the strike was ruled out by the video assistant referee as he was adjudged to be offside.

The attacker struggled to score after that, with Klopp deciding to substitute his talisman off in the 77th minute.

Heading towards the Liverpool bench as he made his way off the pitch, though, the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner was noticeably furious at being substituted by his German coach

Klopp, however, has since insisted the change was for the greater good of the team.

"I can understand because if Mo scored it would have been a new record for goals scored in the opening game, but I didn't think about that," Klopp said, as per Goal.

"We needed stability and we needed fresh legs. It was super intense for everybody.

"That's all I can say about it, his reaction was absolutely okay.

"When I sub a player and he is jumping into my arms at 1-1 and he is a striker who thinks he will score, I would be really surprised so that's absolutely fine."

The two-time CAF Men's Player of the Year will be hoping open his 2023/24 account and make it nine goals in nine appearances against the Reds' next opponents, Bournemouth, on Saturday.
