Where are they now - Carlo Scott

In the latest feature of Where Are They Now, KickOff catches up with former Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town striker Carlo Scott on life after football.

Scott was a prolific scorer during his playing days and still holds the record at Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs) for the most goals score in a single season.

Who am I?

"Carlo Scott, I'm a 43-year-old former striker born in Cape Town in the Western Cape.

"I've played for some of the most recognised clubs in South Africa like Moroka Swallows, Cape Town Spurs, Ajax Cape Town, Santos and Bloemfontein Celtic."

My playing days?

"While I was playing, I was happy, and I was not happy when I wasn't playing.

"It depended on the team that you had, it depended on the coaches, it depended on you as a player, and what you were putting in on the field.

"I can't say in which team I enjoyed my football the most because they all had different challenges and experiences.

"I can't say I prefer one team over another."

Did I make money from soccer?

"Yes, you do make money, but you also spend money in football, and that's why when I completed my studies, I started working as a civil servant, that's why I'm able to take care of my family."

Where I'm living

"I'm still in Cape Town enjoying this weather, although it's quite cold now in Cape Town.

"I have a son and two daughters, a dog, and my parents are still alive. I praise God for that. My brother is also still around."

My current job

"Predominantly, I've been in the Waste Management. I've studied I've done my national diploma, my B tech management, I've almost completed my Master's, for now, I'm in that space.

"So, I'm working for the City of Cape Town."

If you could do it again?

"I would say to those who are currently still playing, put all your efforts into what you are doing.

"Make sure that you look after yourself on and off the pitch.

"If you are not going to be working with what you have, you need a backup plan.

"Not everyone is going to be playing overseas. So, you need to stay in your lane."
