'It feels like a victory' - Rulani on Downs' late goal at Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says the late equaliser made their draw against Kaizer Chiefs feel like a win.

Sundowns rescued a 1-1 draw against Chiefs and got the important away goal after Khuliso Mudau headed home the equaliser in added time and cancelled out an opener by Edson Castillo, also from a header.

In the pre-match press conference, Mokwena suggested that God must be a Chiefs supporter, as he claimed they have been so lucky over the years that they must have a divine connection with the heavens.

After the match, where Sundowns almost lost, the 36-year old coach changed his tune and said God loves them all.

"Where do you start hey? I guess God was listening to my pre-match press conference and he had to just remind us that he loves us all doesn't he?" Mokwena said on SuperSport TV.

"Amazing, congratulations to the players, congratulations to the entire Mamelodi Sundowns, I think it feels like a victory because we have an away goal and we came back from 1-0.

"In fact, to be honest we shouldn't be 1-0 down because we dominated so much, we created a lot of chances but, ja we had to come back, good fighting spirit and now we go for the second-leg," he said.

Mokwena went on and explained how it felt for them to be dominating and not finding the goal and cited injuries to the likes of Peter Shalulile, Thapelo Morena and Thapelo Maseko for not being clinical.

"No, it's unbelievable hey, we dominate the ball, we dominate the pitch, the only thing we don't dominate is the scoreline but we will get there, we are struggling a bit but we have no excuses you know," he went on

"Without Peter Shalulile, Thapelo Morena, we don't have Thapelo Maseko, 'Mshishi' then gets injured and that's a big blow you know and then you have to change a few things and it disrupts the things but how unbelievable are these players.

"So incredible, the subs were so good, (Siyabonga) Mabena, big heart, (Junior) Mendieta big heart, they kept going. 'Sailer' (Mudau) makes that aggressive run, I love my players, they know how much I appreciate them and as I said a few weeks ago, I'm sure even the Sundowns family appreciates them even more."
