Broos : 'He is the type of striker we don't have'

Head coach Hugo Broos was full of praise for French-based striker Lebo Mothiba who is set to make a return return to the national team for Bafana Bafana's upcoming friendlies.

On Wednesday, Broos announced his final squad for friendlies against Namibia and DR Congo to be played in September.

The matches will serve as preparation for the next year's Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that kicks off in November.

Among those in the squad one of the major highlights was the return of Mothiba who last featured for Bafana at 2019 Afcon finals in Egypt.

"Lebo Mothiba was not playing for his club. And last season he played a few games and at the start of this season he's played all their games and scored," Broos said.

"He is the type of striker we don't have. He's big, he's powerful."

Mothiba faces stiff competition for a starting place in the Bafana squad with Burnley striker Lyle Foster having already opened his goal scoring account for the Premier League outfit while Zakhele Lepasa has also proven to be a reliable goal scorer for both Bafana and Orlando Pirates.

South Africa host Namibia at Orlando Stadium on 9 September.
