African giants 'pressure' Real Madrid star ahead of AFCON

One of Africa's biggest footballing nations is now reportedly "pressuring" a Real Madrid star to switch his international allegiance and represent them at the next Africa Cup of Nations.

Playmaker Brahim Diaz currently finds himself in a situation where he may have to choose between representing two international sides.

The attacking midfielder was born in Spain to a Spanish mother and a Moroccan father, making him eligible to play for both La Furia Roja and Morocco.

While Diaz has represented the Spanish national team once before, that appearance came in a friendly against Lithuania – in which he scored – in 2021, leaving him eligible to still represent the north African giants if he so chooses.

With the Los Blancos star having failed to once again be named in Luis de la Fuente's Spain squad last week, the Moroccan national team are now pushing hard to have him make the call to represent them instead so that he can play for them at the AFCON in Ivory Coast next year, according to Marca.

Having been excluded from the European side's squad to take on Georgia and Cyprus in their upcoming 2024 UEFA European Championship qualifiers, Morocco are believed to be hoping to use the situation to their advantage.

Diaz's father and representatives are said to have already received calls from various African federations trying to convince them of the project.

However, it is further claimed that the 24-year-old remains hopeful of once again being picked to represent Spain.
