Chiefs star among new faces in Bafana camp - Broos explains

Kaizer Chiefs attacker Pule Mmodi is among three changes made by Bafana Bafana head Hugo Broos to his final 23-man for upcoming friendless against Namibia and DR Congo.

As part of the preparations for next year's Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), Bafana will host Namibia on Saturday, 9 September, before taking on DR Congo three days later on Tuesday, 12 September.

Ahead of those matches, Broos has made three changes to his final 23 man-squad in the the introduction of Chiefs' Pule Mmodi, TS Galaxy's Mlungisi Mbunjana and TD Tondela's Yaya Sithole.

"It's a strange camp because we have seven injuries," Broos said on Monday at the pre-match press conference.

"[Khuliso] Mudau was injured, okay but he played last Saturday, we did not know that [when the selection was made]. We were never informed.

"We have [Bongokuhle] Hlongwane who is injured, [Themba] Zwane is injured, [Thapelo] Maseko is injured, [Luke] Le Roux who is injured, [Thapelo] Morena who is injured, and we have now at last [Teboho] Mokoena injured.

"I am not happy about that (injuries) because these games are preparation for Afcon and the (2026 FIFA World Cup) qualifiers in November.

"But that can happen, but it is not a bad moment. I don't blame anyone from that but now that means you have to change the team.

"I hoped to have maybe with a few changers, the same selection that played against Morocco.

"On the other side, there is a good side to this (injury crisis) and we can call other players and we can give them playing time, because this is the goal of these two friendly games.

"That we can give playing time to every player that is here. That means those who are here now will have playing time.

"To replace Mokoena, we called Mbunjana from TS Galaxy. (Sphephelo) Sithole and Pule Mmodi (have also been called up)."

Bafana host Namibia at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. Kick off is at 15:00.
