Messi 'pushing' for his club to sign Real Madrid superstar

Lionel Messi is now reportedly pushing for Inter Miami to sign a Real Madrid superstar in January.

With Luka Modric starting just two of Los Blancos' opening six league games of the campaign, the Argentine believes it will be beneficial for his MLS side to sign the Croatian as soon as the next transfer window, according to former Real forward Pedrag Mijatovic.

The 38-year-old, who has won the 2018 Ballon d'Or and 23 major team titles during his time so far at the Santiago Bernabeu, now appears to be surplus to requirements under Carlo Ancelotti, largely due to the wealth of top-quality options the Madrid club has in midfield.

Along with Modric and Toni Kroos, the talent in the middle of Real's park now includes the likes of newly-signed Jude Bellingham, young guns Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, and the versatile Federico Valverde.

The Croatian's current situation has now reportedly attracted some serious interest from David Beckham's Inter Miami, and Messi is said to have already given his approval to the transfer.

"He [Modric] has received offers from the United States, from many teams and from this one in particular," Mijatovic, who was also previously a director of football at Real, said, per the Daily Mail

"He already had the one in Saudi Arabia but he wanted to stay in Madrid.

"Messi himself has personally been interested in the possibility. In Croatia, a few days ago, Modric met Beckham, where they were eating."

Earlier this year, Modric revealed he was aware of the strong competition in his position at Los Blancos, and acknowledged his duty to help the young talent at the club develop further.

"My only condition for staying was to be treated as a competitive player, and not to be kept in the squad on the basis of past merits," the Croatia international told Sportske Novosti.

"These young guys are top players, that's why they're at Real.

"We veterans must help them progress and gradually take over the starting roles at the level that this club is looking for."
