Hugo Broos has explained why he opted against selecting Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Gaston Sirino, who is eligible to represent Bafana Bafana, having spent five years in the country.

Sirino collected his first South Africa passport this year and his ID, making him a citizen of both Uruguay and South Africa.

The creative baller has mentioned that he's open to represent Bafana, while Broos explained that Sirino's age is the main factor behind his non-selection for South Africa.

Broos did mention though that he doesn't mind selecting a dual-citizen, so long as they eligible to represent his side.

Here's how the readers reacted to the "Hugo Broos reveals reason for Sirino decision" story:

"Come on now, this is no story. Sirino, in my opinion, is a no go because if he was that good, why has his own country never called him up?" questions Danito 4 Life.

"Sometimes this man contradicts himself. He said the same thing about 32-year-old Zwane, and he is selecting him now. He hasn't considered Mthethwa for selection in a while, and now he's at Chiefs, he gets selected and it can't be one game that changed his mind," says Bomba.

"If he is that good why is Uruguay not selecting him. He is not South African, I'd rather suffer with my own," says THEBIGBUCS.

"Sirino is not South African," argues Sbuda 81.

"If he can't play at Downs, how can he be selected for Bafana," says Zam d king buccaneer.

"It would be an insult to SA football if he was allowed to play for Bafana Bafana," says Skyvodka.

Sticking with Bafana, Broos named his final 23-man squad to face Eswatini and Côte d'Ivoire in two friendlies this month.

These friendlies are part of Bafana's preparation for next year's Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.

The final squad includes Orlando Pirates' Paseka Mako and Kaizer Chiefs' Sibongiseni Mthethwa, and a re-call for Mamelodi Sundowns' Paseka Mako.

"Good Squad coach. All the best Bafana," says Cybock10.

"Players such as Nyiko Mobbie and Siyanda Xulu 'bayawudla umuthi straight, how can they always be selected for Bafana Bafana, but there is nothing they are doing in their respective teams," says bhekilekhuleni6.

"No Kaizer Chiefs player deserves to be in the national team," says Saavedra.

"You can go anywhere in the world, there's no big team who has only 1 player representing that particular country but only in Mzansi. So according to Broos, Chiefs are the same as Polokwane, Chippa, Sekhukhune etc." says morewasn.

"Thank you Mthethwa for coming over to Naturena, Chiefs are guaranteed a player in the Bafana starting lineup," says Amen.

"This is a great team," says Minwana Phezulu.

"This looks like a good team indeed," says Rio Da Khosi
