Shock Messi-Ronaldo reunion on the cards?

With Inter Miami set for a long competitive break, a shock reunion between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could now reportedly be on the cards. 

The club from South Florida is set for a four-month off-season after failing to qualify for the MLS play-offs, and Saudi Arabia are keen to capitalise on the situation, according to reports.

The Argentine was offered the opportunity to join Ronaldo in the Middle East by Al Hilal when his contract at Paris Saint-Germain ran its course earlier this year, but he instead opted to ply his trade in America. 

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham recently revealed how he snuck into a hotel room to let Messi and his father know how badly he wanted to sign the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner for the MLS side, and when the time came, "everything aligned" for the star to make the switch. 

Now, however, Inter Miami have two more league fixtures scheduled, and with the prospect of no professional football after 22 October until February next year, the Saudi Public Investment Fund is looking to relaunch its efforts to get the Argentina international to their top flight, even if it is only in the form of a short-term loan deal before he returns to the US.

"The internal evaluations are still ongoing, news is expected soon," Sky Sports journalist Rudy Galetti said, as per Marca

Ronaldo and Messi last met each other on the pitch in January, when a combined team made up of Al Nassr and Al Hilal players took on PSG in a friendly, with the Parisian side emerging as victors with a 5-4 win.
