Mosele addresses Bafana future

In a KickOff exclusive, Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele, opens up on the possibility of representing Bafana Bafana and a bright start to his season-long loan at Chippa United.

In 2021, Mosele came under fire from Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, and South Africans at large, after failing to report for national team duty.

The midfielder would earn a return to Bafana a year later and shed light on personal challenges that influenced a decision he's described as mistake by his own admission.

"That's a stage that I had to go through as a footballer in order for me to grow," Mosele explained at a Bafana press conference at the time.

"I went to the coach [Hugo Broos] to apologise and I also apologised to my club. The club and the national team all sat down and talked about it.

"It was just a phase that I was going through, but I learned the hard way."

Injuries and limited playing time have since Mosele fall down Broos' pecking order, prompting a loan move to the Chilli Boys. His last appearance in a Bafana shirt came during 1-0 win against Botswana in September 2022.

Speaking exclusively to KickOff, Mosele says he is patient in waiting his turn in the national team, with his full focus currently dedicated to Chippa United.

"Yes, I think players that go to Bafana are players that perform well," Mosele told KickOff.

"I also want to do well and perform well and the work will speak for itself. I'm sure that time will come."

"But for now, I'm fully focused on doing well for Chippa United. When that chance comes to play for Bafana again, then I will take it with both hands."

Since his arrival at the Gqeberha-based outfit, Mosele is gradually working his way back to the form that had many tipping him as one of the best midfielders in the country.

The 23-year-old has featured in six of the Chilli Boys' nine matches this season, collecting two Man of the Match awards. Chippa has lost just once this season with Mosele on the field.

"It's my job man, I have to do it well. I'm on loan, it doesn't matter which team I come from. I'm here now and I have to focus on what's here. I'm just doing my job," Mosele added.

Following the international break, Chippa United to competitive action with a Carling Knockout clash against Stellenbosch on Saturday at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
