Motupa’s deepening issues at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gift Motupa is feeling the bite of his lack of game time at the club, with rumours now linking him with a January departure.

Motupa last saw action way back in February during a period in which he played four consecutive CAF Champions League matches.

Since then, the 29-year-old has found himself walking as surplus to requirements at Sundowns.

Having totalled just 107 minutes for the 2022/23 season, Motupa has found himself with piling fitness issues as he seeks an escape route in the next transfer window.

Cape Town Spurs and Richards Bay have been mentioned as options that Motupa could look to take up in January, as he aims to get back into playing football again.

Based on the evidence of what has happened at Sundowns, Motupa is no longer in the club's plans, despite having the option on his contract exercised earlier this year.

Motupa's career at Sundowns – who he joined at the start of the 2020/21 season has been hot and cold, having played 11 games (scored once) in his first season.

Then into his second season, the former Orlando Pirates forward featured in just four games totalling 64 minutes, while last season he only played 107 minutes.
