'Parking the bus against Al Ahly is not an option'

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau says parking the bus against Al Ahly is not an option on Wednesday evening.

Sundowns secured a 1-0 win through a stunner from Thapelo Maseko in the second half, and Mudau added a 1-1 draw would have been difficult for them in the second-leg in Cairo on Wednesday.

"I want to give credit to the guys, we did work very hard to make sure that we get a goal at home and we know it won't be easy going in Egypt with a draw but at least I'm very happy that we got a goal this side," Mudau told Sundowns media.

The result kept the champions of Africa winless on their trip to South Africa, but in recent times they did score against Sundowns in Tshwane to eliminate them in the 2021 CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

"If they scored an away-goal, it was going to be difficult for us that side in Egypt. So, I'm very happy for the team that we managed to score one goal.

"To park the bus, it's not an option but (we have) to make sure our rest defence its okay because obviously we're playing away and it won't be easy because they will come," Mudau said.

With the Football League newly formed, the Brazilians have laid their eyes on it but will first have to overcome Ahly in Egypt.

"We have to manage the pressure and make sure we do our things very well. Everyone wants this one to be honest because it's very important for us.

"It's a big cup and as Mamelodi Sundowns we want to win every game and play cup finals," he added.

Having played three times in the newly-established continental tournament so far, Masandawana are yet to concede and edged Angola's Petro de Luanda 2-0 on aggregate in the previous round.
