Chiefs legend: 'You can't change coaches every year'

The frequent changes of coaches are partly to blame for Kaizer Chiefs' struggles, according to Former defender David Kannemeyer.

Amakhosi have endured a disastrous start to their season that has seen them collect just three wins from their opening ten league matches.

Additionally, the Soweto Giants have already crashed out of two cup competitions and are at risk of extending an eight-year-long trophy drought.

Ntseki, who started the season as head coach and was the seventh coaching appointment in the last five years, has since been replaced by interim coach Cavin Johnson.

"With respect to the club, look at how many coaches they have had in the last five years. You can't build success like that. You can't change coaches every year and hope to win trophies," Kannemeyer told KickOff.

"If no one at the club sees anything wrong with how they are hiring and firing coaches then the problems will continue.

"The coaches they have had in the last five years, I thought were good coaches but none of them were given enough time. Hunt was fired after guiding them to the Champions League final, and Middendorp was fired after finishing second. You can't build a winning team without giving coaches time.

"How long are young going to blame coaches?

"At some point as a club, you have to take a stance and say, look this is the guy we're sticking with. Just like how Manchester City stuck with Pep [Guardiola], Manchester United stuck with Sir Alex Fergusson and even how Mamelodi Sundowns stuck with Pitso."

Meanwhile, Chiefs return to action with a DStv Premiership clash against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday at FNB Stadium.
