Sir Alex's feelings about Ten Hag amid Man Utd struggles 'revealed'

Sir Alex Ferguson's feelings about current Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag amid the team's poor start to the season have now reportedly been revealed.

Results have largely not been going the way of the Dutch tactician, but despite the side's disappointing campaign to date, Ten Hag has the "unwavering support" of the legendary Scot, according to reports.

United are fresh off a 1-0 victory over Fulham courtesy of a stoppage-time winner by captain Bruno Fernandes, but leading up to that fixture the Red Devils had suffered 3-0 defeats to Manchester City, in the league, and Newcastle United, in the Carabao Cup, a result ended the club's hopes of defending their League Cup title.

The Manchester side has now lost eight of their opening 15 games across all competitions this season, seeing Ten Hag come under heavy scrutiny as a result, but Ferguson is now said to believe that calling for the Dutchman to be sacked is not the answer.

"Erik has Sir Alex's unwavering support. He's been hugely supportive of Erik since he arrived at the club," a source told The Sun.

"He's impressed at the job he is doing and, in particular, the way he has taken on big decisions.

"Sir Alex, like everyone else, wishes results were better this season. But he thinks those pointing at the manager and calling for a change are wrong.

"[Ferguson] thinks he's shown the kind of character and mentality required to turn the club around and he firmly believes Erik deserves time, like he got, to make a success of things at the club.

"If consulted, that's a position he would be prepared to make clear to any new investors who come into the football club."

The current Red Devils manager, much like his predecessor, has already made some big calls during his short tenure with the team so far. These include choosing to part ways with club legend Cristiano Ronaldo, not renewing David de Gea's contract, and the banishment of Jadon Sancho.

More recently, the manager confronted Marcus Rashford about his late-night birthday outing following that loss to City last week, revealing that it was "unacceptable" on the player's behalf.

The England international is understood to have apologised to Ten Hag, but was still left out of the starting line-up against Fulham on Saturday. The Dutchman, however, said that decision was due to rotation.

"Sir Alex had to make decisions all the time during his years as manager which were difficult and risked putting him on a collision course with his players," the source added.

"But he never shied away from doing what he felt was right for the club.

"This is a trait Erik is showing too, especially with the way he handled the recent Marcus Rashford situation."
