Haaland secures UCL Last 16 spot for Man City

Manchester City 3-0 Young Boys

Manchester City progressed to the UEFA Champions League last 16 with a dominant 3-0 victory over Young Boys on Tuesday evening.

After being substituted at halftime against Bournemouth on Saturday, the Citizens started danger man Erling Haaland as well as young Rico Lewis with Jeremy Doku on the bench.

City were dominant from the start and took the lead when Matheus Nunes went down in the area and Haaland entered to slot in from the spot.

The defending champions got a second just before halftime after Phil Foden drifted inside from the right to fire in the bottom-corner.

Young Boys were pinned back further following the interval as Haaland darted in and around the edge of the area to riffle in the top corner.

Further misery befell the Swiss outfit five minutes in the second half in which a foul on Nathan Ake by Sandro Lauper saw the latter given his marching orders and 3-0 it finished.

Red Star Belgrade 1-2 RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig joined Manchester City in the last 16 from Group G following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade.

Leipzig took an early lead courtesy of Xavi Simons and doubled their lead late in the match through Lois Openda, but an own-goal from Benjamin Henrichs got the host a lifeline with nine minutes to go.

However, the Bundesliga side's lead wasn't in any danger and ended up with the maximum points and sealed last 16 qualification.

AC Milan 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Seven-time champions AC Milan got their first win of the campaign after coming from behind to see off Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 on Tuesday evening.

It was a strong opening from the visitors where Milan Skriniar, who played for Milan's rivals Inter not too long ago opened the deadlock with a diving header.

Milan clawed back immediately and in audacious fashion when Rafael Leao attacked a loose ball to apply a remarkable overhead kick past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The home team went in front early in the second half as Theo went on a surging run and crossed for Olivier Giroud to head in and give his side the win.

Lazio 1-0 Feyenoord

Lazio remained within touching distance of a last 16 ticket after seeing off Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord 1-0.

Two changes for the Italian side saw Manuel Lazzari and Daichi Kamada come in, while Feyenoord named no alterations from their last encounter with the Serie A boys.

Experienced forward Ciro Immobile got the winner in the last minute to halftime when he latched onto Felipe Anderson's surging ball to find the net with pure composure.

Atletico Madrid 6-0 Celtic

Atletico Madrid showed ten-man Celtic no mercy with a 6-0 annihilation and strengthened their chances to qualify for the last 16 from Group E.

Argentine Rodrigo De Paul was an obvious absentee for Atleti following his dismissal in the reverse fixture, as Angel Correa took his place before Jose Gimenez replaced Stefan Savic.

Antoine Griezmann put the host ahead on six minutes when he volleyed in from the edge of the area after a loose ball from a throw-in.

Celtic were down to ten men later in the half after Daizen Maeda got a straight red for a lunging challenge on Mario Hermoso with the support of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The host made use of the one man advantage minutes before halftime as Alvaro Morata finished off a knockdown and left Griezmann bag a brace with an outrageous finish in the second half.

Substitute Samuel Lingo compounded the visitors' woes when he tucked in a layoff from Morata a minute after coming off the bench.

Atleti added more in the final minutes as Morata bagged a brace from an assist by Koke before Saul Niguez pounced on a loose ball to make it six and closed off the contest.

FC Porto 2-0 Royal Antwerp

FC Porto maintained their qualification hopes in Group H following a 2-0 victory over Royal Antwerp, who finished with ten players and exited the tournament too.

Porto were ahead on the half-hour mark after Stephen Estaquio was bundled over in the area by Gyrano Kerk and won a penalty which Evanilson dispatched.

In the second half, the tournament debutants were reduced to ten players following Jurgen Ekkelenkamp's studs up challenge on Zaidu Sanusi and a red card followed with the help from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The host made the points safe in the dying minutes as veteran defender Pepe popped up in the area to head in and send the Belgium boys crashing from the tournament.
