Johnson tips midfielder for bright future at Chiefs

Head coach Cavin Johnson has provided his assessment of midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo following Kaizer Chiefs' 3-2 win over Cape Town Spurs.

Chiefs collected their first win in three matches across all competitions with a 3-2 victory of The Urban Warriors at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

Edson Castillo opened for Amakhosi and Ranga Chivaviro added a second to put Chiefs firmly on the driving seat before Spurs' Luvuyo Phewa pulled on back on two minutes from half-time.

In the second half, Christian Saile restored The Soweto Giants' two-goal cushion with a third strike late in the match but Chiefs were made to sweat when 17-year-old Luke Baartman scored for Spurs' on 90th minute.

The match also marked a return to the starting line-up for Ngcobo, whose injury had keep him out of action for a large portion of last season.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Johnson tipped the 23-year-old for a bright future at Chiefs.

"Mshini (Ngcobo) is a young Kaizer chiefs player of the future," Johnson said.

"I think he just misses out on a lot of match fitness but he's had a big injury, I think a lot of you know that and he's just come back.

"He was out for a while, I think six months, so he's just he's just come back this season and he's showing his capabilities and if we can get him ASAP back to where he should be then he will play more often."

The win Chiefs up to seventh on the DStv Premiership table with four wins 11 matches and two from their last five.

Next for Amakhosi is the Soweto derby against rivals Orlando Pirates to be played at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15:00.
