Ronaldo to play in Europe again? UEFA 'considering' huge decision

The possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo playing in Europe again has now reportedly opened up, with UEFA said to be considering a huge decision that could see him do just that.

The Portuguese superstar is top of the list for all-time appearances in the UEFA Champions League with 101 appearances, and also leads the competition's all-time scoring chart with 140 goals, 11 strikes ahead of second-placed Lionel Messi.

Now, according to Saudi journalist Ali Al Harbi, the former Real Madrid attacker could extend both those records should UEFA decide to invite his Al Nassr side to participate in the 2024/25 competition as he suggests they will.

"The European Union intends to extend an invitation to Al Nassr Saudi Club to participate in the 2024 European Champions League, 'being one of the three most famous clubs in football' and because Al Nassr has great and great popularity on the European continent," Al Harbi wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

While the other two clubs have not been mentioned, such an innovation would mark the end of the UCL being a competition exclusive to European clubs.

The esteemed tournament is already set to undergo considerable changes when next season comes around, with the group stage set to be scrapped and the 36 competing teams to be bunched in one league table.

After eight matches, the teams who end up in the top eight will go through to the round of 16, while those in ninth to 24th spots will battle it out for the remaining places in the first knockout round. The rest of the sides will face elimination from the UCL at that point.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has been in good form for Al Nassr this season, netting 13 league goals in 12 matches to help his side to second spot on the Saudi Pro League table, four points behind leaders Al Hilal.
