CAF has now confirmed the formation of a new association aimed at, among other things, ensuring that the continent's clubs are "commercially competitive".
According to a statement on CAF's official website, presidents and managers of a number of African clubs will be in in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday, 30 November, for the launch of the Association of African Clubs (ACA).

The aim of the new organisation is said to be to bring together all stakeholders in the African football landscape by developing a network, while encouraging innovation and excellence.

The statement confirmed that the objectives of ACA are: "To protect and promote the interests of African football clubs to ensure that African football clubs are commercially profitable, globally competitive.
"To ensure respect for referees, match commissioners and VAR operators as well as ensuring the independence and credibility of these professions.
"To establish partnerships with sponsors, the private sector and governments to build CAF and FIFA standard stadiums as well as other football infrastructure and facilities in each of the 54 CAF member associations.
"To develop the talents of African youth, academies for boys and girls and improve the quality of African club football so that it is world class."
