OFFICIAL: Motaung named as CAF confirms ACA leadership

CAF has officially confirmed the leadership of the new African Club Association (ACA), with Kaizer Chiefs' Jessica Motaung among them.

CAF launched the ACA at its inaugural meeting on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt, with Dr Patrice Motsepe chairing proceedings.

According to a statement by the organisation, Motsepe "saw a need for African Football Clubs to have a platform and a structure where they can have a voice in African football".

Motaung, Amakhosi's marketing and commercial director, was elected to be a part of that structure, being appointed to serve as one of two vice-presidents to Hersi Said, who was elected as president of the ACA.

In doing so, she has now broadened her reach in African football as she is also a part of CAF's Organising Committee for Women Football Standing Committee.

The other deputy chosen to serve under Said is Nigeria and Akwa United's Paul Bassey.

Speaking to African journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, who asked her about what her new position means for her and Chiefs, Motaung expressed her delight at the appointment.

"Well, a very significant moment, not just for Kaizer Chiefs but for African football. I am just very proud to be here and be able to serve the game the way that I can," she said.

The newly-appointed first vice-president also highlighted what she will be able to bring to football on the continent.

"I think my strength is the commercialisation of the game, I think that's important: Looking at where African clubs are and the opportunity to get corporates and just get clients to the game and the marketing of the game," she added.

"So that's important for me and I think I can work very closely with the board and the president to do that."
