Club chief gives new update on Sundowns, Ahly 'target'

The chief of an African giant has given a new update on the reported Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly target.

Amid links to big clubs around Africa as well as some European clubs, administrative manager of Medeama Sporting Club, Joseph Tetteh Zutah admitted that the player Jonathon Sowah could move on "sooner or later".

He added that it is up to the club to ensure that they find a replacement for when the 24-year-old decides to part ways with the Ghanaian giants.

The attacker was in action when Medeama lost 3-0 to Al Ahly in the opening round of group stage clashes in the CAF Champions League, and despite being on the losing side, Sowah is said to have made a big impression on the Egyptian giants as well as other clubs around the continent. Reports suggest that various clubs enquired about the forward's availability after that match, including the Red Devils, fellow Egyptian side Pyramids FC, and Sundowns.

Zutah, meanwhile, expressed the need to make the appropriate arrangements for the star's eventual departure.

"So what we have to do is to just a find a replacement, it's not as if Sowah will be here forever, definitely there will be a time he has to move on, it could be soon or later, fair enough, but it is up to us to also make sure we get an able replacement," Zutah told Citi Sports via Footbalghana.

"We are open to anything, if a deal comes, why not and both parties agree, he can move on."

The club's president Tony Aubynn has previously expressed the side's desire to keep a hold of the player for now, and denied reports of negotiations between the Ghanaian giants and Al Ahly.

He, however, admitted to the possibility of selling Sowah in the future.

Sowah was granted his first international call-up earlier this year after helping his club end the 2022/23 campaign as league winners, with the in-demand striker scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances on Medeama's road to domestic glory.
