OFFICIAL: Mokoena named as CAF reveals top goals shortlist!

CAF has officially revealed the shortlist for the Goal of the Year award, and Mamelodi Sundowns star Teboho Mokoena is right among the contenders!

The 2023 CAF Awards Gala will take place on Monday, 11 December, in Morocco, where the various winners will be revealed, and with voting open, fans can play a major role in choosing the best goal scored by an African footballer this year.

The voting process has already begun, and will close this Friday, 8 December. Football fans can have their say by voting here

"An expert panel has selected 12 amazing goals from the various CAF competitions to be voted for by the sporting public," an official statement from CAF read.

"The public vote account for 70% of the process, making the award special compared to other categories. The other 30% is decided by CAF Technical Experts."

Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star Mokoena is featured among the nominees for his wonder-strike against Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League group stage encounter, in which the Brazilians thrashed the Egyptian giants by five goals to two in March earlier this year.

The inaugural African Football League champions would, however, end up being knocked out of the tournament at the semi-final stage by Wydad AC, with the Red Devils going on to win the tournament.

Despite not winning that competition, Mokoena's stunning strike from outside of the penalty area will live long in the memories of the Masandawana faithful.
