Pyramids coach: We deserved better against Sundowns

Following a frustrating goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League, Pyramids FC boss Jamie Pacheco has insisted his side deserved to win the match.

With Masandawana having played out to an uncharacteristic goalless draw on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld, Rulani Mokwena's side now sit on four points after three matches played in the 20234/24 CAFCL, tied with every single team in their group, namely TP Mazembe, Nouadhibou, and Pyramids.

Despite Downs dominating the match with ball possession of 69% and having a one-man advantage after Pyramids star Osama Galal was sent off late in the match, the opposing manager believes his team deserved more than just the one point on the day.

"I am not satisfied with the goalless draw against Sundowns, and we deserve a better result than a draw," he said in a post-match press conference, according to Mes7at.com.

"We posed a great danger and wasted several opportunities with quick rebounds into the opponent's goal. Had it not been for the lack of success in scoring these chances, the team would have finished with a result better than a draw.

"I salute the players for the effort they made throughout the match and for their superiority over the opponent many times

"Throughout the minutes of the match and in the first half, Pyramids played defensively to close all spaces in front of Sundowns, and in the second half the match developed with the arrival of Abdullah Al-Saeed and Mostafa Fathi.

"In fact, the team created many opportunities and was able to return to Cairo with a result better than a draw."

"Sundowns is a big team and one of the most important clubs on the continent and has many solutions in all positions, but Pyramids is also a big team on the African continent, and is able to continue its journey with all its strengths, and the technical staff took advantage of the past period to memorise the way the players played and the team's strengths and weaknesses.

"In fact, the players implemented the plan and deserved to win over Sundowns. The team must quickly forget the result of the Pretoria match and focus on the upcoming matches.

"The team has an important match in the league against Mahalla Municipality, and then they must focus on the fourth round match against Sundowns in Cairo in order to win and get closer to qualifying for the quarter-final."
