Ex-Celtic & Downs shooter finds comfort in Kenya

Although he will be vividly remembered for his time at Bloemfontein Celtic rather than at his former parent club Mamelodi Sundowns, Burundian star Abdul Razak Fiston now looks to be living the life of a king back in Kenya. Here's a closer look!

The story

The big striker was just 25 years old when he joined Masandawana from Sofapaka FC back in July 2015 for a reported fee of R3 million, according to Times Live.

However, his time at Chloorkop was quite uneventful, as he spent most of it out on loan at Siwelele where he would spend one-and-a-half seasons with the Mangaung outfit. His journey is in South Africa came to an end in November 2017, sparking a nomadic journey around the continent representing clubs in Angola, Egypt, Tanzania, and Morocco. In the 2021/22 campaign, he won the CAF Confederations Cup with RS Berkane, who beat Orlando Pirates through penalties.

Fiston is now back at Sofapaka FC in Kenya. Upon rejoining the club back in August 2023, he expressed that he also had offers from outside the continent.

"I had an offer from Kuwait with a bigger salary than what I am getting here in Sofapaka. I also had an offer from Saudi Arabia's second division as well as a club in Lebanon, but I decided to come back here because this is like a family to me," Fiston told Capital Sport.

Explaining his reasons for the decision, he added: "I was following Sofapaka on social media and I saw the way they were struggling. I talked to the president and he told me things were hard and I told him to give me just two more seasons to play abroad then I would return.

"I was to come back after Morocco but immediately, a club from Oman really insisted on me signing for them and I talked to the president and asked him to allow me another year. I can never forget where I come from and my heart ached when I saw the club struggling. This is why after Oman, I told the president I want to come back.

A cozy life

Fiston appears to be quite content about his life, as his Instagram paints a picture of a happy family man with a wife and three children, including twins. His fashion is also worth noting, as he seems to have a unique blend of streetwear and traditional fashion. His taste for drip seems t be rubbing off his children, as they tend to dress in a picture-perfect way despite being so young.

He also looks to be the proud owner of a stunningly personalised black Audi. His bonnet of the ride features the skull and bones symbols and in South Africa, you would be forgiven for assuming it's a sign of die-hard Pirates supporter. However, it is quite unlikely that the Bucs was the inspiration behind him choosing this particulary car bodywork.

The road to the 2026 World Cup

On an even more joyous front, Fiston recently made a return for his national team Burundi, where he now plays alongside another former PSL striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs. After a three-year hiatus from the national team, he was called up for Burundi's recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Gabon in November. With the country having never qualified for the World Cup before, Fiston will be hoping to inspire a historic qualification
